SSD Upgrade Guide: Breathe New Life Into an Old Laptop

What an SSD Does

A traditional HDD uses spinning disks and takes 10-20 milliseconds to find data. An SSD uses flash memory and finds data in 0.1 milliseconds. That 100x speed difference shows up everywhere: boot time, app launch, file search, Windows updates.

What to Buy in 2025

For most users, a 500GB SATA SSD is the sweet spot. Brands we recommend: Crucial MX series, WD Blue, Samsung 870 EVO. Expect to pay around Rs.3,500-4,500 for a quality drive. NVMe SSDs are faster but only compatible with newer laptops - check your laptop specs first.

What About the Old Data?

This is where most people get nervous. We clone your existing drive to the new SSD, so when you boot up, everything looks exactly the same - same wallpaper, same files, same passwords. Nothing is reinstalled. The old hard drive is returned to you as a backup.

Real-World Speedup

We have done this upgrade on hundreds of machines. A typical 4-year-old laptop goes from a 90-second boot to a 15-second boot. Excel opens in 1 second instead of 8. Chrome with 20 tabs stops lagging. For a Rs.4,000 spend, no other upgrade comes close.

Want Us to Do It?

Book a slot and we will: (1) confirm compatibility, (2) source a genuine SSD, (3) clone your drive, (4) install the SSD, (5) run a speed test, and (6) hand over the old drive. Total turnaround: 24-48 hours.
